What Is It & How Does It Spread? Coronaviruses (Coy) refer to a family of viruses causing illnesses ranging from a common Cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-Coy) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). The latest strain, 2019-nCoV (also known as 2019 Novel Coronavirus), was identified in Wuhan, China in December, 2019. This virus can spread person-to-person through the air via close contact with an infected person. coughing, sneezing, contact with contaminated surfaces and possibly through fecal contamination. At this time, there is no vaccine or specific treatment for this strain. Controlling Infection The CDC has implemented stringent infection control measures to be followed when infected individuals are suspected. How To Protect Yourself From Coronavirus
How To Protect Yourself & Others Hand Hygiene: Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap & water are not available. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
Respiratory & Cough Protocol: Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or shirt sleeve. Dispose of used tissues in trash. Avoid contact with infected individuals if possible.
